When a popular franchise comes up with its third season, there is a lot of pressure. How do you see that?

Honestly, there is no pressure. The last two seasons have got immense love from the audience. Showrunner Navdeep Singh and Ajay Rai are known to me, as I have worked in Gangs of Wasseypur with them. They are very talented and I am very happy to be associated with them.

What kind of preparation have you done for this role?

The first thing that I try to do is to understand my character and its world. I also try to know the psyche of the character. When I get clarity, I start working on my physical look. For Rangbazz 3, I gained weight as the role traverses through different age-groups.

What kind of chemistry do you have with Aakanksha Singh?

The experience was excellent, as she always used to come to the set well prepared. When you have a good understanding with your co-stars, the end result is always fruitful.

What is the USP of this series?

First and foremost, the script and the characters have been written brilliantly. And there will be a perfect mixture of politics and crime this time. My character also has a lot of shades, which makes this series interesting and engaging.

Do you have dos and don’ts while taking up any project?

I will not do anything to titillate the audience. If a role and a particular scene requires me to do something, I will definitely do that, but nothing more.

You are a qualified Ayurveda doctor. How did you take up acting?

At the age of 14-15, I realised that I would like to become an actor. But it wasn’t that easy. So, I made my survival plan strong and joined medicine. I knew I would need backing while I am struggling as an actor.

You consider Anurag Kashyap as your guru. Right?

I came to Mumbai in 1999 and after 10 years I met Anurag Kashyap when he was making Gangs of Wasseypur. Eventually, I got a role in that movie. Then I did Ugly with him. If he was not there in my life, I wouldn’t have been here today.
