The video was first posted by Julia Zukowski on Tuesday. Zukowski later posted a GoFundMe for the unnamed person who allegedly had their wheelchair broken, saying: “Hi, my name is Julia Zukowski, and as you have already seen I posted a video on Twitter of a college student pushing someone’s wheelchair down a flight of stairs. I am starting this gofundme to help raise money towards a new wheelchair for the person! Any donation helps ???? Thank you!”
Zukowski also tweeted: “I do personally know the person who owns the wheelchair. They would like to remain anonymously until they can take legal action. I would never use this opportunity to scam anyone in anyway.”
She added: “The chair was left on top of the stairs because she physically had to be carried down to use the restrooms. Which are only located downstairs.”
Once the video went viral, Mercyhurst, a school in Erie, Pa, responded to Zukowski’s post with a statement.
“Late this afternoon, Mercyhurst University became aware of a disturbing video in which one of our student-athletes is seen pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs at a local establishment. Our Office of Student Conduct and Department of Police and Safety are investigating,” the statement said.

Daniel Briere was named interim GM of the sad-sack Flyers earlier this month, replacing Chuck Fletcher, the son of the longtime Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher.
He released a statement of his own, according to Erienewsnow.com. “I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday,” the elder Briere said.
“They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”

Carson Briere, 23, also released a statement.
“I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday. There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment,” it read.

A November 2021 story on collegehockeynews.com detailed how Carson Briere was “making the most of a second chance.”
He had been dismissed from Arizona State, along with a teammate, for what the Sun Devils claimed was a violation of team rules.
“I was just going out; I wasn’t taking hockey seriously. It wasn’t anything bad, it was just not being committed to hockey, I was more committed to having fun at school,” Briere was quoted in the story as saying. “Too much partying, that’s probably the best way to put it.”
Briere first landed with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the British Columbia Hockey League before going to Mercyhurst.
