NEW DELHI: Indian batter Virat Kohli added another record to his tally as he became only the second player to score 1000 runs in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup. Kohli achieved the milestone in India’s Super 12 match against South Africa in Perth on Sunday.
Having already played two match-winning knocks (82* and 62*) in the ongoing World Cup, Kohli failed to continue his sublime touch making just 12 off 11 balls before being dismissed by Lungi Ngidi.

Kohli now has 1001 runs in 24 matches in T20 World Cups and is 16 runs away from overtaking former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardena’s record of 1016 runs in 31 matches.
West Indies’ Chris Gayle features third on the list with 965 runs in 33 matches while Indian captain Rohit Sharma is at fourth with 919 runs in 36 matches.

Despite a lagging start to the year, the 33-year-old Kohli found his rhythm in the Asia Cup and in the bilateral series matches against Australia and South Africa that preceded the competition.
His unbeaten 82-run knock earned plaudits from all the quarters with former Australian Greg Chappell terming his innings a “song by God”. Chappell also called Kohli the “most complete Indian batsman” of his time.
