Kohli, who had failed to score a hundred since November 2019, broke his century drought with a century in the Asia Cup last year and has carried his form with hundreds across formats since then.
Before the innings on Thursday (May 18), Kohli was on five hundreds level with Jos Buttler for most hundreds in IPL. The chasing list also includes KL Rahul, David Warner, Shane Watson and AB de Villiers among others.
Most Hundreds in IPL history
Chris Gayle – 6
Virat Kohli – 6
Jos Buttler – 5
KL Rahul – 4
David Warner – 4
Shane Watson – 4
AB de Villiers – 3
Coming back to the match, Kohli (100 off 63 balls) shared a 172-run opening stand with skipper Faf Du Plessis (71 off 47 balls) as RCB chased down a target of 187 with 8 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.
The victory kept RCB alive in the race for a playoff spot as they moved to 14 points with one more match left to play this season. SRH, meanwhile, were already out of contention from finishing in top four as they have 8 points from 13 matches.
Earlier in the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen scored his maiden hundred in IPL with a 49-ball knock. This is the first time in IPL history that a batter on either side has scored a hundred in IPL.
It was Klaasen’s knock that powered SRH to a challenging total, but Kohli’s knock kind of overshadowed that as RCB came out victorious in the end.
