Viviane Araujo doesn’t think she’ll get a title shot after UFC Vegas 62 (Video)

The headliner of UFC Vegas 62 does not believe that a win over Alexa Grasso puts her next in line to fight for the flyweight strap.

On media day ahead of UFC Vegas 62: Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo, No. 6-ranked flyweight Araujo made clear that she believes there are numerous contenders ahead of her who deserve the next title shot against reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko.

“I’m pretty sure that whoever wins this fight is going to be in a really good position and a really good spot to be in the top of the division,” Araujo replied when asked if she believed this was a No.1 contender fight.

“But, to be honest, I see other opponents in a better spot and a better situation than me, like Taila Santos, Lauren Murphy, Jessica Andrade, and even Katlyn Chookagian … so yeah, I don’t think my next fight will be a title shot.”

Viviane Araujo: ‘My victory is going to be fashionable’

Araujo (11-3) will be facing No. 5-ranked Grasso (14-3) in a bid to climb the flyweight ladder. When asked if she was viewing the fight as an opportunity to do something special, Araujo was honest in her expectations for the fight.

“I was training too much for this fight, and yes, you’re right about that: I’m sure I’m going to be able to perform. That’s my point, I want to perform very well, and my victory is going to be fashionable.”

In May 2022, Araujo defeated Andrea Lee via unanimous decision. Prior to that, she had lost the third fight of her career to No.1-ranked Chookagian. This Saturday, Araujo will look to solidify her place in the top of the flyweight division with a victory over Grasso.
