Guardiola hails Sterling after 100th Premier League goal

Manchester City showed a pragmatism to go with their typical panache on Saturday in the Premier League.

Wolverhampton Wanderers represented determined and defensive opposition, with Raheem Sterling’s second-half penalty the difference between the two teams on the day.

Wolves also saw Raul Jimenez sent off just before the interval for two yellow cards in quick succession.

While the three points were eventually secured, it’s performances like these that have some fans looking towards the January transfer window for potential reinforcements in key positions. Especially given the title race between City, Liverpool and Chelsea looks poised to go down to the wire.

Vlahovic has been in exceptional form for Fiorentina.

Aside from centre-forward, what other areas do City need to strengthen? Let us know in the comments section.

Vlahovic told to join City

Former Italy forward Antonio Cassano has told Dusan Vlahovic he should join Manchester City.

The Fiorentina sensation has taken Serie A by storm this season with 15 goals from 17 appearances. Now rated as one of the hottest prospects in world football, he’s been linked with a number of European football’s biggest clubs, including City.

Speaking to Bobo TV (h/t Sport Witness), Cassano said Vlahovic should jump at the chance to move to the Etihad Stadium if the opportunity arises.

“Vlahovic, choose Guardiola and go to Manchester City,” he said. “I don’t know if you’ll be up to it, but with a year you could reach Haaland’s level. If, on the other hand, you find a coach who does not know how to communicate with you, growth stops.”

Torres boost for Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t 101 Great Goals), Barcelona’s elimination from the Champions League has not put off Ferran Torres from joining the club.

The Blaugrana have long been linked with a move for the Spain international, who is currently on the sidelines at City due to injury.

In the report it’s suggested that Barcelona’s new Europa League status for the remainder of the season would not put off the City star from heading back to La Liga, nor by Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, who is also said to be a target for the Catalan giants.

Torres is in his second season at the club and was in fine form before picking up a metatarsal problem.

Spurs to rival City for Christensen

According to Harry Pratt of the Daily Star , Tottenham Hotspur have joined Manchester United and Manchester City in the race for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

The Denmark international is out of contract in the summer, meaning he could be available for a potential knockdown fee in the January window.

Of the three clubs mentioned, City would be able to offer the 25-year-old the best chance of challenging for the silverware. Additionally, his cerebral defensive skill and calmness on the ball would be a fine fit for Pep Guardiola’s passing blueprint.

However, with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake already in situ at centre-back, it’s not clear if Christensen would get minutes if he jumped ship to City
