Volkswagen announces pricing for 2022 Jetta and GLI

Both get a styling refresh, and the Jetta gains a new engine

Volkswagen Canada has released pricing and details for the refreshed 2022 Jetta and Jetta GLI, which will start at $22,595 and $31,595 respectively.

Both models get styling updates, with new front and rear bumpers, new colours, and wheel designs unique to each trim. Their interiors also get a tweak, while upgraded technology includes a standard “Digital Cockpit” instrument cluster.

The Jetta now receives a revised 1.5 L turbocharged four-cylinder from the new Taos, making 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, up from its previous 1.4 L with 147 horses. The Jetta GLI uses a 2.0 L turbo four-cylinder, making 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The starting prices represent a $1,000 increase over the 2021 ticket for the Jetta, and $600 more for the GLI.

Both models start with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Jetta can be optioned to an eight-speed automatic, and the GLI with a seven-speed automatic direct-shift gearbox (DSG).

The Jetta comes in three trim levels of Comfortline, Highline, and Execline. The Highline can be optioned with a new Sport package, which adds such items as an electronic differential lock, dark graphite 17-inch wheels, blacked-out grille and accents, black headliner, and “leatherette” sport seats. As before, the GLI comes in a single, fully-loaded level.
