While just a concept car for now, a production version with a price tag around $36,000 is expected in Europe in 2025

Set on introducing ten new electrified models over the next three years in its global markets, Volkswagen has its foot to the floor developing new EVs. The latest is this ID.2all hatchback, a thinly veiled concept car pointing the way to VW’s next-gen design language –—at least, for its products in Europe.
Using the so-called ‘MEB Entry’ platform as its base, the ID.2all is said to be packaged smartly and offer interior space roughly in line with the popular Golf, despite putting forth a smaller footprint. In fact, dimensions suggest the ID.2all is a good 230 millimetres (nine inches) shorter than a 2023 Golf GTI.
A target total range of 450 kilometres on a fully charged battery is notable, especially for a small electric car in Europe, even if that number is based on the endlessly optimistic WLTP procedures used by Yurpean testers. The car will be powered by a single electric motor, driving the front wheels and good for 233 horsepower.

VW product planners are hoping to price the thing at less than 25,000 euros, which equates to roughly $36,000 here in the land of hockey and maple syrup. Left unsaid is whether the touted horsepower and range numbers will be on tap for that sum, or if the el-cheapo trim will make do with a smaller battery and weaker motor.
The car’s interior has a few cheeky features, including ‘play’ and ‘pause’ notations on the accelerator and brake pedals. A narrow but wide screen sits ahead of the driver, ready to serve up details about speed and other vitals. A larger tablet sits in the centre, pulling duty for infotainment and a myriad of other vehicle functions.

A bank of real buttons sit to the left of the steering wheel, and the presence of four power window switches on the driver’s door indicate VW is actually listening to the hordes of people who panned the setup found in that area on the ID.4 hatchback.
As with numerous other well-packaged and attractive small hatchbacks, there are no plans to offer the ID.2all in North America. A production version is slated only for the European market, set to appear there in 2025. Same goes for the just-confirmed upcoming ID.1 hatchback, an even smaller all-electric microcar also based on the MEB Entry platform, planned for introduction after the ID.2all and priced around 17,000 pounds (CDN$28,000) in Britain, per outlet Autocar.
