So, you want a new luxury EV, but you have a couple requirements. Maybe you want it to be small; maybe you want a bold look; maybe you’re a loyal Volvo fan. If those are the three boxes you’re looking to check, Volvo may have the answer for you. The luxury brand just teased its new small SUV, the EX30, in a short 30-second YouTube video early May.

Despite the YT video showing a large hand reaching to grab the tiny vehicle, I think it’s safe to say the real EX30 won’t be Hot Wheels-sized; however, its exact dimensions and other details are unknown, at least until its June 7 reveal.

Prior to today’s news, we were given a couple sneak peeks of the Volvo EX30. Back in August 2022, a few patent images were leaked on Worldscoop (a forum for European car enthusiasts). While it’s unknown where exactly the pictures came from, there was a patent listed for the name “EXC90.”

Our other forewarning? During a livestream event introducing the Volvo EX90 in November 2022, Volvo’s CEO Jim Rowan completed the presentation by saying, “if you look really closely, perhaps you’ll see something else,” at which time a silhouette of a smaller SUV appeared.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Unfortunately, we won’t have too much more information besides that until June 7, but if we cross our eyes while looking at the short video, we can see vertical taillights, what seems to be a full-width light bar that links the headlights (no Thor’s hammer-shaped headlights?), and a defined, bold hood that should make this vehicle easy to spot in a crowd of compact crossovers.

The global debut will be on June 7 — and according to Volvo, that’s the date that it becomes available to pre-order in selected markets.
