A lucky West Aussie angler had a close encounter with orca whales.
Crayfisherman Zac Mankelow posted an incredible video of the majestic creatures on Instagram this week after he spotted them swimming near his boat off the coast of Geraldton, in the Abrolhos Islands.
In the video, at least one orca can be seen swimming right alongside the boat.
Social media users were excited by the video, jealous of the “rare sight”.
“Wow, how lucky are you to see that. So envious,” one person wrote.
“So cool sea pandas,” another said.
Although out of their normal waters in the south of WA, increased traffic of humpback whales may have lured pods of orcas to the Mid West coast.
The animals are the apex predators of the ocean, and are known to prey on a wide variety of species, including the calves of humpback and grey whales.
