WA to host annual AC/DC-inspired festival

Western Australia will next year play host to massive outdoor festival inspired by Australian rock icons AC/DC.

The High Voltage event will take over the streets of the coastal city of Fremantle to bring in tens of thousands of fans.

Premier Mark McGowan is hoping to make the event an annual pilgrimage for locals and tourists.

The state has had a relentless campaign to attract out-of-towners after being effectively cut off from the rest of the country for nearly two years.

“This is going to be a mighty celebration that will rock Fremantle and Western Australia,” Mr McGowan said.

The event comes off the back of Highway to Hell from 2020, where a 10 kilometre music route was set up across the state’s Canning Highway.

It drew in nearly 145,000 people and raised $6.1 million for the state’s economy, with the premier looking to echo that success from Fremantle businesses.

The event is pitched as family friendly, hosting multiple music zones, including electronic.

It is scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
