Many people will be irregular drivers forced onto the roads by the strikes, and there is unfortunately likely to be an uptick in drink driving after the England game on Saturday evening, according to experts at Nextbase.
England matches in the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 saw an uptick of drink and drug driving, with casualties rising from 10 percent to as much as 20 percent of all road injuries, the experts added.
And icy conditions in parts of the country will make safer driving even more important.
With that in mind, head of road safety at Nextbase, Bryn Brooker, has shared some road safety tips for those on the roads this weekend.
Mr Brooker said: “Rail strikes typically force a lot more people onto the roads, particularly highways.

“This applies to both the day of the match and the day after. So if you’re driving this weekend, be as cautious as possible – and if you’ve had some drinks, don’t get behind the wheel at all.”
According to experts at International Drivers Association, Cambridgeshire is the most dangerous region in England and Wales for drink driving, with the highest percentage of positive alcohol breath tests. Some 33.5 percent of tests were positive, or 2,488 out of 7,437.
Gloucestershire is the second most dangerous region for drink driving. Some 1,943 of the 7,238 alcohol breath tests were positive, or 26.8 percent.
In third place is Leicestershire with 24.5 percent of alcohol breath tests being positive, whilst Suffolk had 24.4 percent.
