SCOTS heading to a popular Spanish holiday hotspot are being warned of a major crackdown on tourists in the city.

Extra cops are being readied as Palma Police look to stamp out anti-social behaviour in the Majorca’s capital, as well as the neighbouring party town of Magaluf.

And boozy tourists could face a whopping fines of up to 3,000 euros if they break any rules.

The local council highlighted illegal massages, street vending, street drinking, pub crawls and noise pollution are the key issues they look to combat.

Sanctions will also be imposed on mass street parties and other unauthorised gatherings.

The increased security measures will begin on Monday and run throughout the summer until October 15.

Majorca Daily Bulletin also reported that an information campaign has been launched to remind shopkeepers of the current rules reading the sale of alcohol.

Stores could face penalties of up to 600,000 euros if they don’t obey the Law on Excesses regulations.

Palma is not the first holiday hotspot to announce strict new rules targeting drunken tourists.

In March 2023 Amsterdam announced that they would introduce similar measures as the Dutch capital looks to change its party image.

Speaking at the time, the city’s deputy mayor, Sofyan Mbarki, said the restrictions mean that tourism won’t impact residents’ quality of life.

He said: “Some entrepreneurs misuse the image of the city to sell Amsterdam as a place of ‘unlimited possibilities’. As a result, groups of visitors think that Amsterdam is a city where everything is possible and allowed.”

The Palma warning comes as Scottish holiday makers were issued urgent warnings as temperatures are expected to rocket to record breaking levels in Spain.

Residents and tourists are being urged to consider how they use water supplies as drought conditions continue to spread across the country.

Last week, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned that the country continues to feel the impact of climate change.
