(KRON) — The Golden State Warriors are closing in on a trade deal with the Washington Wizards that would see Chris Paul joining the Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole, according to Shams Charania with The Athletic.
A separate report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski indicates that Poole, 24, would be part of a package that also includes future draft assets.
To acquire the 38-year-old future Hall of Fame guard, the Warriors traded away Poole, 2022 first-round pick Patrick Baldwin Jr., 2022 second-round pick Ryan Rollins, a protected first-round pick in 2030 and a 2027 second-round pick, according to Charania.
One year ago, Poole was a key piece in helping the Warriors win the NBA title. In that offseason, the Warriors and Poole agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $140 million. He averaged 20.4 points (43% FG) and 4.5 assists, playing all 82 regular-season games in 2022-23.
Paul is coming off an injury-riddled postseason in which he missed the final four games of the Suns’ second-round series loss to eventual champion Denver Nuggets. He played 59 of 82 regular-season games, averaging 13.9 points and 8.9 assists.
Charania reported that Warriors forward Patrick Baldwin Jr. will be going to Washington in the trade. Baldwin, the Warriors’ 2022 first-round pick, averaged 3.9 points per game in 31 contests.
