Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. was shot multiple times in a robbery attempt Sunday night, NBC Washington reports. Robinson Jr. was hospitalized, and is in stable condition, as his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
According to D.C. Police, the incident occurred after two suspects tried to steal the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat which belonged to Robinson Jr. A scuffle ensued and gunshots were fired soon after.
Metro Police Department director of communications Dustin Sternbeck tells ESPN that the shooting happened just before 6 p.m., and when officers arrived at the scene, Robinson Jr. had sustained “a couple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities.” Sternbeck said a firearm was recovered a short distance from where the incident occurred.
The Commanders released the statement below.
