Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two legends of Indian cricket. The two players have been mainstays for the Indian team across all formats. In the current generation, there is no shortage of talent but it is a huge ask to continue at the highest level for a long time.
And upon asked about current generation players who can be the future of Indian cricket, Wasim Jaffer has named three names.
The former India batter believes Yashasvi Jaiswal can be one of the players who will play for India for a long time. Jaiswal has made a fantastic start to his India career with a century and a fifty in his first two Test innings.
“One is Yashasvi Jaiswal. I see him as a three-format player. He has performed amazingly well in the IPL and has made an excellent start in Test cricket,” Jaffer said to JioCinema.
Jaffer also names Shubman Gill as another pick and reckons the duo can be the next big thing in India cricket.
“Shubman Gill is the second name I will take. If we talk only about batting, I see these two players as very strong contenders who will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” he added.
Apart from the duo, Jaffer has picked Sai Sudharsan as his third pick. The southpaw has been a fantastic performer in domestic tournaments and continued that with a stellar season for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.
Sudharsan also has been in brilliant form for India A in the ongoing ACC Emerging Nations Cup in Sri Lanka. He scored an unbeaten century in the last match against Pakistan and is the highest scorer for India A in the tournament.
And Jaffer says the Tamil Nadu-born player can be another one who can don the India colours for a long time.
“Sai Sudharsan is a player who I have liked a lot, the way he has played in the IPL. So I feel he can become a very good player in the future,” Jaffer concluded.
