Watch as passengers snap wheels off suitcase to avoid paying extra baggage costs

FRUSTRATED travellers have been filmed snapping the wheels off their suitcases to avoid having to pay extra luggage costs.

With every airline having different carry-on allowances, it’s easy to take the wrong sized bag aboard a plane.

With financial penalties awaiting any passengers that exceed the limits, some go to extreme lengths to make sure their cases will fit.

The latest of those passengers are a group of easyJet customers, who have been seen snapping the wheels off their cases to make sure they fit the airline’s sizes.

Footage of the frustrated passengers was shared to Tiktok by user Anna (@annapalumbo91).

In the video the travellers are seen stamping and pulling the wheels to remove them from their cases.

It has caption in Italian, which translates to: “Thank you easyJet.

“When you don’t want to pay for the 3cm difference.”

The easyJet website states: “Everyone can bring one small cabin bag per person on board for free.

“It can be a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles or wheels) and needs to fit under the seat in front of you.”

It appears that the wheels may have been the only difference for these passengers.

While their actions may seem extreme, other people had their sympathies with the travellers.

One wrote: “I understand you.

“I paid €100 (£87) for a round trip for my wheels, and I saw suitcases bigger than mine on board. I wanted to cry.”

Another said: “I did the same thing with my suitcase.”

A third added: “I had to do that too.

“The suitcase costs less than the difference for taking it on board.”

EasyJet told Sun Online Travel that their cabin bags have a maximum size, and that they must ensure customers’ bags are within the maximum sizes for safety reasons.

The airline added that customers are clearly informed of these dimensions when booking, reminded of this via email before they travel and are that it’s clear that these dimensions include handles and wheels, which is also clearly displayed on their boarding pass.

There is also an AI bag sizing tool on their app for passengers to check if their bag is the correct size.

A spokesperson said: “We must ensure that customers’ cabin bags are within the maximum dimensions to safely and securely fit where they need to be stowed in the cabin.

“We clearly inform customers of maximum cabin bag dimensions and that these include handles and wheels when booking, via email before they travel and it is also clearly displayed on boarding passes.”

Meanwhile, this passenger went viral earlier in the year for taking drastic action to make sure he didn’t have to pay extra for his hand luggage.

These are the UK airlines with the strictest hand luggage policies.
