Cub Swanson will make his bantamweight debut at UFC Vegas 62.
Cub Swanson always knows how to put on a show. The 40-fight veteran has done plenty of media days during his 18-year professional career, so he decided to “rest his voice,” and tag in Dan Argueta to answer questions for him leading into UFC Vegas 62, creating an entertaining scene at the media day.
“Cub is trying to relax his voice a little bit,” Argueta said for Swanson. “He’s had a lot of phone calls and interviews to do, so I decided to fill in. He wanted to test me and see if I would answer everything correctly for him.”
Argueta is familiar with the UFC media day process, as he stepped into the Octagon for the first time back in June, where he dropped the fight with Damon Jackson via decision. His performance as Swanson’s medium went much better than said fight.
“Cub started cutting weight about four or five months ago,” Argueta said. “We came in, we did all the proper steps. He did the testing here at the PI. We did the testing together to see where we both stand on the drop to 35 [135 pounds], and overall, he felt like he needed that next challenge. Sacrifice a little bit more to the sport.”
By any account, Swanson has sacrificed a lot for mixed martial arts. Since joining the UFC back in 2011, he’s taken on some of the biggest names in the sport. He’s shared the Octagon with individuals like Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens, Max Holloway, and Brian Ortega. He even has wins over two former champions Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira. Still, this is his first contest at bantamweight and will be a fresh look for the veteran.
“I think he’s happy with it,” Argueta said. “His weight is looking better than mine and I think we made the right decision still.”
Jonathan Martinez will welcome Swanson to the bantamweight division
Jonathan Martinez is riding a three-fight win streak and looking to add a big name to his resume. Since joining the UFC back in 2018, he’s put together a 7-3 record, as he’s caught the eyes of many who claim he’s a prospect to watch.
“I think that Cub is his biggest, toughest matchup he could have gotten. Cub’s the biggest name he’s gone up against. We are here to bring the war. We are looking for a first-round KO. We have seafood reservations.”
