Lamont Butler delivered an epic buzzer-beater to help San Diego State complete a 14-point comeback in the second half to advance to the national title game.

A crazy NCAA Tournament has added another magical moment to March Madness history. Lamont Butler’s buzzer-beater helped San Diego State complete a 14-point second-half comeback to stun Florida Atlantic 72-71 as time expired.

The comeback itself was improbable as Florida Atlantic dominated the game throughout, building a 54-40 lead with 14:56 left in the contest. The Aztecs didn’t panic, simply playing defense and slowly cutting into the deficit over the remainder of the second half.

The defining sequence came after San Diego State opted not to foul with Florida Atlantic up one with 36 seconds to go, opting instead to play defense. The decision paid off as Johnell Davis missed a jumper, allowing Nathan Mensah to grab the rebound for the Aztecs and get it into the hands of Butler, who calmly dribbled it out and put up the game-winning jump shot, which hit the net as time expired.

This moment will allow Butler to live forever in March Madness history with an epic shot to propel San Diego State to the national title game for the first time in school history. You also have to feel for Florida Atlantic, which played their hearts out only to have their own chance at history snatched away in a matter of seconds.

San Diego State will now watch the second game of the Final Four to see who they will play for the national championship on Monday. That contest tips off shortly as UCONN takes on Miami in an intriguing matchup of power conference opponents.
