Getting the ball is one thing. Getting around Chloe Wrigley is another.
The Peel Thunder midfielder has always been able to find the ball, but has clearly added a new, even-harder edge to her game this season after laying an insane 17 tackles to go with 23 touches in her team’s 25-point win over East Perth at the weekend.
Wrigley, 23, was one of the competition’s leading tacklers last year – finishing behind only league best and fairest Sharon Wong – and has lifted from that already-lofty base.
After averaging seven tackles per game in 2022, the Thunder star is now going at 14.5 per game in her two appearances this year.
Her performance at the weekend saw her named Streamer’s WAFLW player of the round for round three.
Wrigley’s not the only Peel player with a hard edge this year either – her teammate Krystal Carter recorded a crazy 19 tackles in last week’s loss to league leaders Claremont.
After several years in the conversation, Wrigley’s start to the year could further her push for an AFL call-up.
A dual-premiership player for Peel, she was named best on ground in the 2020 decider and has spent time training with both Fremantle and West Coast without getting a call-up.
The AFLW supplementary draft is scheduled for April 4. Fremantle have four list spots available, while the Eagles won’t be making any selections.
Last week’s Streamer player of the week, Claremont’s Jasmin Stewart, will reportedly nominate for South Australia in the draft aftet some interest from Port Adelaide.
