The Lion King Broadway show is described as one of the most iconic stage shows of all time. On Saturday, the show celebrates its 24th anniversary on the historic stage. Plays and shows and performances of almost all kinds have been mostly shut down over the last 18 months. But with a return to the stage for this show finally here, the cast has gone viral just from rehearsing.

Lion King Broadway: What a warmup performance
With the anniversary performance expected to see in another sold-out crowd, this table read rehearsal sing-along will leave you stunned. The cast is led by our very own Tshidi Manye, the South African who has played Rafiki in the Lion King abroad for more than 17 years.
The circle of life
Manye was born in Soweto and up until Broadway shut due to the pandemic, was used to performing around eight shows a week. We can’t even begin to imagine how strong her vocal cords must be to get through 17 years of singing like that every single day.
This weekend’s anniversary performance is dedicated to the legacy of the man who created the role of Mufasa. Samuel E. Wright played Mufasa in 1997. He received a Tony nomination for his performance and died in May.
