Watch Two Stylists Compete to Create the Best Half-and-Half Style

0

Commitment is hard, which why I love a half-and-half protective hairstyle. Like, why lock yourself into to one look when you can mesh two together? On today’s episode of Battle of the Braids, the gifted Kamary Mingo and Tiffany Anderson (two iconic Braid Up alums!) were tasked with creating “Half and Half” looks that combine stitch braids and knotless/traditional braids. Both of their final styles were absolute home runs, but only one stylist could win this battle (cue the ominous music…). With a major game curveball and a dash of friendly trash talk between the contestants, this challenge was a nail-biter to witness. Keep watching to find out who came out on top…

For your own half-and-half braids, keep these four pro in mind:

1. Don’t forget the heat protectant. Blow-drying is a prep step that will def make braiding easier, but only if you use a heat protectant spray or cream beforehand. Remember, healthy hair = happy hair.

2. Section like a pro. All the experts know that a simple rat tail comb and a set of styling clips are musts for creating clean, precise parts. And JSYK, clips are also *super* helpful when you’re blow-drying your hair, so keep them handy for wash days too.

3. Sprinkle in some color. Two different braiding styles don’t have to be the only variety involved in your half-and-half look. Feeding in colorful braiding hair will give your style an extra layer of individuality.

4. Make it sparkle and shine. You’d better move like Beyoncé and Cuff It…and by that I mean it’s time to invest in cute hair gems, cuffs, and rings and let your hair have a dress-up day.
