FURIOUS passengers say they were left “STATELESS” after a border blunder saw them locked out of the UK.
Passengers on a 7am Loganair flight from Dundee to London Heathrow on Wednesday morning were left stuck at the gates after being dropped off at the wrong entrance.
Travellers were transported by bus from the plane to international arrivals instead of domestic arrivals.
But none of the 20 passengers had their passports with them because the flight did not leave the UK – meaning they were not able to gain re-entry to the country in London.
The affected passengers had already been dropped off by the bus before they realised the mistake.
And they were left in limbo as they waited for permission to officially re-enter the country, with some claiming they missed meetings due to the hold up.
Businessman Chris Van der Kuyl tweeted a photograph of a number of them waiting in line after realising the could not re-enter the UK.
He told the Courier: “The bus driver must have been having a bad day.
“We were dropped off at international arrivals instead of domestic.
“Because we were all on a domestic flight, none of us had passports with us, meaning we couldn’t enter the UK where were dropped off.
“This has been really frustrating.
“People missed meetings because of the length of time it took to actually get us through border control and into London.”
The businessman said airport staff walked the group of them through to the domestic arrivals area before being met by another hold up.
When the group arrived there, the doors were locked and they still couldn’t leave.
Passengers were forced to wait another 30 minutes before they could finally leave the airport.
Mr Van der Kuyl added: “Maybe Menzies should get bus driver that know Dundee is part of the UK.”
He tweeted his frustrations when he arrived at the airport saying: “Great service from Dundee to Heathrow today.
“After arriving late we were bussed to the international door.
“The whole plane is now “stateless” and stuck on the wrong side of the UK border..
He then updated to say: “We are stuck at the last Heathrow exit door.
“You need to have customer service staff onsite.
“What a s@&&show.”
Another passenger, Scott Milne, missed his first meeting in the city and said “this lies with the people at Heathrow who Loganair sub-contract to get passengers to the correct terminal which they failed to do.”
A spokesperson from Loganair said: “Loganair apologises for the disruption caused to customers’ travel plans as a result of the delays on the ground for our Dundee to London Heathrow service this morning.
“We worked with our partners to ensure this was resolved promptly.”
Heathrow Airport was approached for comment.
