The journey to the weird west gets a little longer.
Devolver Digital announced a delay in the release date of WolfEye Studios’ weird, wacky, western fantasy action RPG Weird West to March 31, 2022. The announcement came in a tweet in which Devolver attested to “some wonky moments” that require fixing in order to make the game its best self possible before launch. Attached with the tweet was a video from WolfEye’s creative director and Dishonored co-creator Raphaël Colantonio explaining the decision to push the release date back.
“We are passionate developers and gamers at WolfEye, and as we are playing our own game, on one hand, we realize that the game is really great,” Colantonio said. “On the other hand, we realize it’s not quite ready yet. The game is being tested in a private beta and they’re having a blast. However, we want to iron out some stuff, because we are committed to delivering the best experience.” He went on, citing the developer’s experience with immersive sims and the importance of getting everything right so all players have a good experience. A press release from WolfEye reinforces this, noting bugs and dead ends were still an issue in the game.
Weird West was originally revealed back at the 2019 Game Awards and promises a bizarre mix of the wild west and the supernatural, where magic powers and mystical beings mix with rootin’ tootin’ cowboys. Players will take control of five unique heroes that happen to include a werewolf, a pigman, and a seer among your typical outlaws as they explore a wild west overtaken by evil and try to uncover its mysteries. Oddly enough, it’s a part of a small wave of fantasy westerns, with the vampire-slaying western Evil West also slated for a 2022 release.
Weird West was planned to release on January 11 of next year, so the delay isn’t too long of a wait for the highly anticipated RPG. It’s also the second delay for the game as it was originally slated to drop in the Fall of 2021. Weird West drops on March 31, 2022 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
