Eyes have taken centre-stage for the past 18 months and there’s no sign of that changing. From pastel hues at KNWLS to loaded-up lashes at Malan Breton, expect eye makeup to be bigger and brighter than ever. “Lashes have become an accessory and we almost turned them into jewellery,” says Andrew.
“For this look, we did opposite tones on the eyes, but there’s unlimited opportunity for colour and texture play. You could do one eye with a certain coloured eyeliner and the other eye with a matching mascara. It’s about finding your own combination.”
To introduce the trend to your everyday, opt for a coloured mascara or a glitter-infused mascara, so when you blink it catches the light and gives a beautiful twinkle.
FLUFF IT UP
After decades of sleek and shiny hair reigning supreme, it is high time we embrace frizz in all its beauty and even enhancing it, as seen as Molly Goddard and Balmain. “I think there’s this myth of frizzy hair being something negative because people tend to think it’s related to damaged hair, which simply isn’t true,” says Yoshitaka. “People are embracing frizz in recent years and we’re accepting that our hair gives us a character and that should always be celebrated.”
For the eyeliner, Andrew went for avant-guard, graphic look: “It’s a modern alternative to a traditional feline flick. It can be really impactful while remaining very minimal. I wanted it to be random but not weird, so I followed the natural shape and angles of the eyes and used points of the socket and brows as a starting point,” he says.
Andrew recommends everything from sticky tape to the edge of a piece of card to achieve a crisp finish. “You don’t have to be super steady handed to achieve this trend,” he says.
METALLIPS
After nearly two years behind face masks, it’s time to embrace opulent finishes, metallic textures and majestic hues on lips. “Choose a colour that compliments your skin tone to transcend it coming across as a deliberately unusual choice,” Andrew recommends.
“If you want to introduce a blue, but find it’s washing you out, try a purple with a hint of warmth. This royal blue became electric against her skin tone, so it was like the shade was meant for her.” Try experimenting with shimmery pigments and multicoloured eyeshadows, pressing them into a lipstick or a simple gloss.
Who knew the metaverse would look so good?
