Chris Paul’s time with the Phoenix Suns appears to be heading toward an imminent end.
The team has yet to let Paul go, but all signs seem to point to the team waiving him, allowing him to become a free agent eligible to sign with any team.
Paul may be on his way out of one contender in the Western Conference, but there’s another that has an interest in signing him if and when the Los Angeles Lakers decide to let him go.
According to The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers have a “strong interest” in adding Paul.

Without the need to incur his current $30 million salary – the Suns would buy Paul out if he’s waived – the Lakers could sign Paul for the veteran’s minimum.
If the Lakers end up signing Paul for the veteran’s minimum, it would allow them to possibly retain D’Angelo Russell with one of their exceptions.
Russell played well for the Lakers after he was acquired at the trade deadline, but his production dropped in the playoffs.
Paul would give the Lakers another experienced veteran player, something that they’ve had mixed results with over the last few seasons.
The Lakers won the title in 2020 with a mix of veterans and youth, but an over-reliance on older players led to them missing the playoffs in 2022.
