A Westfield shopping centre has been evacuated after a fire broke out inside a shop.
More than 100 people were evacuated from the Liverpool centre after the blaze broke at about midday on Monday.
Fire and Rescue New South Wales superintendent Adam Dewberry told radio 2GB it’s believed the blaze started at the rear of a shop.
“Firefighters have got water on that fire,” he said, “there’s a lot of smoke … everyone has been evacuated … police are there assisting, we’ve got ambulance there, we’ve got security on scene.”
The exact shop in which the blaze broke out hasn’t been identified, but Mr Dewberry said it was “not in JB Hi-Fi, but near it”.
Seven fire trucks and 28 firefighters were on the scene at the height of the emergency.
One person has reportedly suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The blaze has since been contained, although it’s too early to determine a cause.
More people were at the shopping centre than usual due to the school holidays.
