Getting one of the best doormats to fill your entryway with is of the utmost importance if you want guests to get a good first impression of your home.
In place of my expensive habit of buying clothes (handbags and trainers in particular), I have now adopted the equally pricey practice of shopping for interiors. Online furniture stores have become my happy place which means – you guessed it – I have approx. 47267 mood boards on the go constantly, and I’m always on the hunt for my next piece of dreamy furniture. Top of my list ATM is a stylish doormat to keep the dirt out and the good vibes in.
Finding the best doormats for your home might sound like an incredibly straightforward task, and perhaps not the most exciting one either, but not for me. It’s the first thing people will see when they step into my home, so it needs to make the right impression and set an inviting atmosphere.
Whether you own your home or rent it, doormats are the easiest little upgrade you can make to transform your abode – and they’re relatively cheap, at that. The impact a doormat can have shouldn’t be underestimated. Think about it, it’s a foolproof way to bring a pop of colour or texture to your home and show a bit of personality before revealing the rest of your curated decorations.
Unlike a coffee table, armchair or sofa (as nice as those additions are), doormats are super inexpensive and yet still provide the same statement. It’s a winner. Consider it in the same way that you would a piece of wall art; your doormat is artwork that will reside on the floor. The right one will have your friends and family feeling right at home the next time it’s your turn to host.
What is the best size doormat?
As tempting as it may be to add a two-meter doormat to your basket, it’s best to get your measuring tape at the ready and do some numbers. Interior designers advise that a doormat should be roughly 80% of the width of your door to provide proper surface coverage and be visually attractive. A standard door is 3-feet wide, so the mat should be at least 29 inches in that case.
What are the best indoor doormats?
Having scoured our fave online furniture retailers, including the likes of Anthropologie, John Lewis and Graham and Green, we’ve curated an edit of the 19 best doormats to dress your hallway with.
If you’re on a budget, consider John Lewis’ Welcome Door Mat. Super contemporary and inviting – it literally says ‘Welcome’ – yet very purse-friendly, the coir and PVC crafted style is just screaming to be snapped up. At £10, you really can’t argue either. If you’re looking for something that will put a smile on your face every time you enter your home, look to the brand’s Scion Spike Door Mat. Made from natural coir, the cutesy hedgehogs add a little sunshine to everyone’s day – plus the mud tackling abilities of the textured brittles are practically unrivalled. Elsewhere, Graham and Green’s Natural Seagrass Leaf Doormat is the perfect finishing touch – or starting touch, to be honest – to your home’s interior decor. Admirer or scandi styles and pared-back tones? This one’s for you.
