Sancho, 21, became the second most expensive English player in history when he left Borussia Dortmund over the summer to join United on a five-year deal.
Much was expected of the England international but Sancho has endured a sluggish start to his career at Old Trafford, failing to score or assist in his 12 appearances in all competitions.
Following Manchester United’s embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to use a 3-5-2 formation for the games against Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta, with Sancho only playing five minutes across both fixtures.
Arsenal legend Wright cannot understand why Sancho continues to be overlooked after Man United spent over a year pursuing him.
‘They’ve chased down Jadon Sancho for a couple of years. You get Jadon Sancho and he’s not playing,’ he said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show.
‘You’re playing with wing-backs so why are you buying wingers like Sancho. What are you doing buying Sancho?
‘He [Solskjaer] should know what he wants from this team. Manchester United knew they needed more from their right-hand side. They buy Sancho but he can’t make the team.’
Sancho was part of England’s squad at Euro 2020 last summer but Gareth Southgate has left the forward out of his latest squad because of his lack of game-time.
Explaining why he overlooked Sancho and fellow Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, Southgate said: ‘With Jesse and Jadon, they just aren’t playing a lot of football compared to others in their positions.
‘If you’re playing regularly for your club, you’ve got a much better chance of us assessing how you’re playing compared to the group.
‘With these two lads, they’ve got great competition for places in the position they play.
‘Both of them totally understand that, they know they’ve got to get playing for their clubs, and playing well. And then England is a bonus on the top. They have done well for us, I’m sure they will be back with us.’
