Manchester United host Chelsea tonight knowing that a solitary point will be enough to seal their return back to the Champions League for next season.

With Newcastle having claimed their qualification spot at the start of the week, Erik ten Hag’s side will be confident of clinching the final place up for grabs when they come up against their struggling visitors.

Chelsea are playing for nothing more than pride after a disastrous campaign on and off the field that has left them languishing down in 12th position in the table.

Here is your full brief ahead of the Premier League game at Old Trafford this evening.

What is the team news?

Marcus Rashford has returned to training for United having missed the previous two games with illness.

Aside from Phil Jones, Lisandro Martinez, Marcel Sabitzer and Donny van de Beek who are all long-term absentees, there are no fresh injury concerns for the hosts.

As for the away side, Frank Lampard has confirmed that Benoit Badiashile will be out for months – rather than weeks – after the Frenchman picked up a hamstring injury in training last week.

Lampard said: ‘He has come here and impressed and the games just before he got injured I was very happy with him. He is going to be a good player for this club. It is an unfortunate, complicated injury.

‘I hope for him that the timing of it over the summer, means that he won’t miss games and he will come back stronger.’

The England contingent of Mason Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell continue to be sidelined, while there’s little prospect of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Marc Cucurella featuring in either of the Blues’ final two games.

Kalidou Koulibaly has returned to training but he will not travel with the squad as he continues his recovery from a hamstring complaint but Joao Felix will at least be available for selection having pulled up in the warm-up before the City game last Sunday.

What have both managers said?

United boss ten Hag is keen to focus on the job at hand and not get distracted at how close the club are to confirming their spot in the top four.

The Dutchman said: ‘It’s clear and we want to win every game. That is what we have tried to do all season and tomorrow we want to do the same and win the game, play dominant football and get the job done.’

Lampard, meanwhile, expects a professional performance from his players having spent the last few months with seemingly nothing to play for in the league.

The Chelsea manager said: ‘People think we have not got much on the game and the players have to show them there is, in terms of their personal and collective approach to it.

‘We will have to go there with a good mentality as they are fighting for something we have fought for many years, and now we are not in that position, so players need to show.’

What happened in the reverse fixture?

Manchester United snatched a dramatic late equaliser when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge back in October.

Chelsea thought they had done enough to win the game when Jorginho slotted away his penalty three minutes from time, but United walked away with a point when Casemiro popped up in the final minute of extra-time with a fine header.
