What exactly is the ‘natural blush’ trend doing the rounds on TikTok?

We might have finally found the easiest beauty hack taking over TikTok which requires zero skill.

It’s called ‘Natural Blush’ and this particular trend doesn’t involve buying a new blusher or a special style of contouring. It also doesn’t require the hands of a makeup artist or, in fact, any specialist tools at all. You can do it on your own. TikTokers have been showing us how by pinching their noses and cheeks for a rosy glow – one that you could do anytime, anywhere.

Ok, so it might not be anything new. It turns out this so-called hack has been used by women for centuries, particularly in the Victoria era, to bring colour to their faces when makeup was very much frowned upon. They may have been on to something though because it seems people can’t get enough. The #naturalblush tag has has millions of views – with so many interpretations.

While some people are loving it,  others find it’s leaving their faces a little redder than they’d have hoped. The trend also doesn’t seem to have the same effect on those with dark skin tones – something many TikTokers have shared in their versions of the hack.

TikToker @iconicgreen1 showed herself pinching her cheeks and in the end turning to a highly pigmented blush stick to get the desired look in her video entitled ‘Did I do it right?’ Users commented on the tongue-in-cheek video. “I tried to do it I just ended up bleeding ???? another said: “you have to pinch.”

It’s at this point we should probably mention that ‘Natural Blush’ probably won’t be overtaking actual makeup products anytime soon since this hack probably only lasts approximately 30 seconds. Ideal perhaps for a quick dose of colour – but not quite good enough to see us ditching that blusher brush for good.
