‘What I think your Perth suburb says about you’

‘What I think your Perth suburb says about you’

If you live in Daglish “you’re a d*ck,” if you call Woodvale home, “you’re really annoying,” and if you reside in Bayswater, well, lucky you, “you’re cooler than all of us”.

And, FYI, “Hillarys isn’t cool anymore”.

These are just a snippet of the opinions one young Perth woman has shared in a series of TikTok videos labelled, ‘What your suburb says about you (Perth).’

WA suburbs have long had many stereotypes, but Honor Luca Gleadow has decided to give us all a fresh take on the ‘burbs and she’s caused quite a stir with her hilarious judgements on her TikTok page @honorluca.

The 23-year-old, who also broadcasts the alternative community radio show Going Underground on 88.5 FM, released the first video of a three-part series on June 14, with the caption, “If you’re offended, my job here is done”.

The first video, which has been viewed more than 67,000 times, takes aim at the northern suburbs. Before she unleashes her thoughts, she admits she knows nothing about the southern suburbs…

The first edition was such a hit; she had viewers calling for more reviews of their own suburbs – and as a “habitual people pleaser,” she has just released the third video in the series.

Here’s what she had to say so far:

Daglish

“If you live in Daglish, you have money but you’re a d*ck about it,” she says. “You suck. You definitely earnt it from your parents but you need to get over yourself because you’re not Peppermint Grove.”

Peppermint Grove

“Peppermint Grove – I know, you’re better than me. It’s fine. I accept that. Just please don’t hurt me,” she says.

Cottesloe

“If you live in Cottesloe, just a word of advice, all the claw hair clips in the world will not replace a well-rounded educated personality,” she says. “And, I mean like going out into the world, experiencing different people, and that doesn’t mean the European vacation your parents bought you when you left high school.”

Mosman Park

Mosman Park is apparently her fantasy suburb.

“Mosman Park – how does it feel to live my dream?” she asks. “Just wait until I find a rich husband…”

Scarborough

For Scarborough, she just does the shakkas hand gesture. ????????

City Beach

“If you live in City Beach, you think you vibe with the Scarborough crew,” she says. “You don’t.”

Woodvale and Greenwood

“If you live in Woodvale, you’re really annoying and I won’t be explaining any further,” she says. “Sorry.”

Greenwood was lumped in with Woodvale as having “annoying” residents.

Karrinyup

“Karrinyup people, you are like the older, more chilled-out sibling of Stirling. Cut from the same cloth, but just a bit more reasonable,” she says.

Balcatta

“Balcatta, your family definitely has a secret recipe that’s been passed down generations but you’ll never share it but you will bring it to every gathering,” she says, asking if she can have a recipe.

Mullaloo

“If you live in Mullaloo, you have money but you’re really nice about it,” she says. It’s not like a generational wealth thing, and you know how to spend it in good ways,” she says.

Duncraig

“If you live in Duncraig, it’s a good suburb, but I promise you it’s not as good as you think it is or you tell people it is,” she says.

Hillarys

“If you live in Hillarys, I don’t know how to tell you this gently, but um, it’s not cool anymore (Cringe).”

Joondalup

“Joondalup is filled with either students or Channel 9 families – do you know what I mean by that,” she asks. “Not Channel 10, not Channel 7. You’re a Channel 9 family.”

Ocean Reef

“Ocean Reef, I know you probably think you’re the sh*t because you’re sandwiched between two pretty good suburbs, but chances are you’re still a Channel 9 family,” she says.

Mindarie

“If you live in Mindarie – one, you’re English, and two, you have money but you do not know how to spend it tastefully,” she says. “You will have a beautiful house and just fill it with the tackiest sh*t.”

Alkimos

“Alkimos – let me guess, you are newlywed, baby on the way, looking for your first family home to grow up in,” she says. “ That’s great … Just be aware, though, that your kids will grow up to hate you for living that far away from the city.”

Padbury and Darch

Honor, who seems to know it all about Perth suburbs, makes a point of knowing nothing about the suburbs of Padbury and Darch.

“What is Padbury?” she questions. “I hear people talk about it. I’ve never been there. I wouldn’t be able to point it out on a map. What is there? I don’t think it exists.”

She feels the same about Darch.

Mundaring

Mundaring, your house is probably filled with little art made from gumnuts made by little old ladies. It’s cute. It is, but, you know, probably verging on a fire hazard.

Thornlie

“Thornlie, you probably have a story about sinking piss with the Southern River Band Boys,” she says.

Bayswater

“Bayswater, congratulations, you’re cooler than all of us – seriously, I’m not joking,” she says.

Morley

“Morley – you value convenience, and I respect that,” she says.

Subiaco

“Subi – you must sleep well because there is nothing going on past 7pm,” she laughs.

Fremantle

“Fremantle people, you are either the best kind of person or the absolute worst,” she explains.

“If you were born there, raised there, you’re probably really chilled and down to earth, and interesting, and have great hobbies. If you moved there ‘for the vibe’, you’re f*cking insufferable.”

Unfortunately, if you live further south than Fremantle, Honor says, she has “no reason” to travel that far so she has no comments. Which, really, is a comment in itself.

Her three reviews have been viewed thousands of times and received hundreds of comments over the past few weeks.

Some viewers agreed with her judgments, with one saying her first video was, the “most accurate TikTok I’ve ever seen” and another believing it was “so spot on.”

Others agreed that Mullaloo residents were “humble and work hard.”

And the English seem to be OK with her Mindarie review: “I agree with the Mindarie one as I live here also u got it right, I’m English lol,” one viewer said.

One TikToker was happy Bayswater was being put in the spotlight: “Finally Bayswater getting the representation it deserves.”

Some viewers hit back at Honor’s reviews, saying “Woodvale people are not annoying,” and disagreeing with her opinion on Mullaloo residents, with another viewer saying the suburb was, “so pretentious nowadays.”

Another defended Greenwood, “Noooooooo Greenwood is NOTHING like Woodvale, well my little pocket of Greenwood isn’t, we are next to Duncraig, but over the freeway bridge,” they commented.

While one viewer gave the home of Perth’s aquarium AQWA a little love, “Hillarys is the best, just saying.”

Her videos were all in good jest, and not intended to offend viewers.

Honor told fans she would release a part four, if “she can be bothered”, so keep an eye out, maybe your suburb will be next.
