Being a highly artistic field, Accessory designing offers people a platform to explore their creativity. It is concerned with research, analysis and evaluation of socio-cultural factors, fashion & market trends, understanding of people behaviour, their tastes, techniques and available materials etc. and accordingly visualize and design a range of wearable accessories like shoes, jewellery, belts, handbags, hats, wallets, gloves, scarves etc. to complement and enhance style and fashion outfits. This specialised field is also involved with non-wearable accessories that include objects related to comfort products or home décor and are fast attracting huge demand among people.

Role of Accessory Designer:

  • Study Trends: He must understand past as well as current fashion & market trends. This will enable him to design accessories that people can aspire to in future.
  • Create concepts/ideas: Accessory designer must utilize his artistic skills to develop unique design concepts that complements the fashion apparels with which they are to be paired with.

Scope of Accessory design:

Jewellery Designer: He is responsible for conceptualising and designing sublime intricate pieces of wearable art utilising varied pieces of stones and metals in accordance with his comprehension of client brief, socio cultural factors, fashion trends etc. He must display an understanding of traditional as well as modern jewellery designing & fabrication techniques and practices besides being in sync with current fashion trends, market dynamics & customer preferences etc. Additionally, the functional & architectural knowledge of materials like precious and artificial stones, gold & silver etc. is also essential. The economic viability and practicality of the design must also be considered at the time of conceptualisation.

Leather Accessory Designer: He is responsible for visualising & design accessories like belts, purses, hats etc. utilising leather.

Footwear Designer: His role involves designing of shoes and other footwear that is artistic and practical. The range of footwear caters to high street fashion to sports to kids.

Visual merchandising: In order to attract apt audience at the retail level, Visual merchandiser designs strategies and visual concepts, thereby enabling sales. He must have knowledge about his end customers, the buying behaviour, preferences, market & fashion trends etc. and ensure accessibility to right kind of products in right quantity and at the right time.

Fashion Designer: He is responsible for conceptualising, planning & designing of apparels basis his analysis of people, their tastes, fashion trends, economic factors, market dynamics etc. He is involved in the entire production process right from ideating concepts, to identifying the fabric, material, colour, texture, patterns etc., to getting the prototypes done to check the flow of the cloth, to identifying the vendors for production, to merchandising, to budgeting, to its final production and marketing.
