San Francisco 49er George Kittle was part of the star-studded bill featured on Day One (Friday, May 27) of the three-day BottleRock Napa Valley festival.
The Pro Bowl tight end appeared at the festival’s increasingly popular Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage, where he was joined by chef Aaron May and host Liam “Foodie Chap” Mayclem — as well as one special guest (more on that in a moment).
It was a half-hour segment, which I only caught part of while racing around between the music sets happening on multiple stages, but the portion I saw was full of personality and the fun foodie hijinks that folks have come to expect from Mayclem and the Culinary Stage.
The special guest was none other than 49er mascot Sourdough Sam, who appeared onstage and began tossing out loaves of sourdough bread to the crowd. Kittle joined in, showing off his throwing arm as he set those loaves sailing into the audience.
The pair would also do some dancing and then compete in a drum-off. No, I’m not kidding. Not sure how that drumming idea was hatched, since it quickly became clear that neither one was all that good on the instrument.

Yet, they still each took to a kit — situated on opposite sides of the stage — and took turns doing the best they could setting the beat. Nobody will ever confuse them with Lars Ulrich (the great Metallica drummer, whose band headlined Day One of BottleRock). But, then again, how good is Ulrich at putting up impressive YAC (yards after the catch) numbers against NFL teams?
Of course, there was also a culinary element taking place during this segment. I didn’t catch the food part, but I was able to see Kittle and company (including his wife Claire) enjoy some cocktails made from red wine, Coca Cola, lime juice and nitrous oxide.
