They are spinning it for younger audiences.
Sony Pictures Television (SPT-K) announced Thursday that they plan to create a spin-off of the iconic game show “Wheel of Fortune” but will gear the challenges toward children and younger audiences.
“There’s such a vast history at Sony Pictures Television with properties that we could play around with and reinvent, introducing a whole new generation of kids to them,” Joe D’Ambrosia, executive VP and general manager of SPT—Kids, told The Hollywood Reporter.
While details of the new game show are unclear, it was reported that several of the challenges will involve physical and comedic challenges that will help contestants earn letters.
The Post reached out to “Wheel of Fortune” for comment.
“Our mission is straightforward and clear,” D’Ambrosia explained adding that Sony is aiming to become the “premier content creator for kids.”
Fans of the game show revealed this is not the first time the syndicated game show has been reincarnated for a younger demographic.
“Correction on your Kids’ Wheel of Fortune article,” tweeted one die-hard fan. “There was in fact a kids’ version of WOF before. It was called “Wheel 2000” and it aired on CBS on Saturday mornings in 1997 and 98. Some episodes are on YouTube.
“As a child of the 90s I remember another time they tried to make a kid version of Wheel of Fortune,” tweeted a second person.
A couple of users were not thrilled with the “wheel”-ly big announcement.
“In case you were wondering where the laziest and most creatively bereft studio executives in Hollywood are, it’s @sonypictures Television. slammed the user.
“I’ve always been waiting to see a new revival of Wheel 2000………wait, wait, not really,” said a second person.
It is also unclear if Vanna White, 66, and Pat Sajak, 76, will host the new version of the show.
The 76-year-old host has a well-known reputation for being rude and sometimes condescending to competitors.
Last week. Sajak, mocked a contestant’s high-pitched scream after she won a whopping $10,000.
“Wow, you don’t play a lot of poker, do you,” chided Sajak after the big win.
Some of Sajak’s recent bizarre behavior includes putting a contestant in a chokehold, claiming he hides in letter-turner Vanna White’s garden, asked a contestant to remove his shirt and tugging on a contestant’s beard.
As of Sunday, the new version of “Wheel” does not have an official premiere date.
