The final of the oldest and most prestigious domestic cup competition in the world is one of the most cherished dates in the football calendar.

This year’s final will bring the curtain down on English football for another season, with the winning set of players ending 2022-23 on a high.

So, when is the FA Cup final this year? Read on for the all-important date.

When is the FA Cup final this season?

The FA Cup final 2022-23 will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023

The kick-off time has yet to be confirmed, although last season’s final started at 4.45pm.

This is the first time in the FA Cup’s history that the final will be played in June, as a consequence of the fixture congestion caused by the World Cup in Qatar.

The final is traditionally held towards the end of May.

Who won last season’s FA Cup final?

Liverpool are the defending champions having beaten Chelsea in the final last season.

The game went to extra-time following a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes, although the additional half an hour was also not enough to separate the two sides.

And the arch rivals were even level after five kicks apiece in the penalty shootout.

Mason Mount saw his spot kick saved by Alisson when it went to sudden death, allowing Kostas Tsimikas to step up and slot home the winning penalty.

The win gave Liverpool their eighth win in FA Cup history – and their first since 2006.

Jurgen Klopp also entered the history books by becoming the first German manager to lift the famous old trophy.

Which club has won the most FA Cup titles?

Arsenal are the most successful team in the FA Cup with 14 titles in their trophy cabinet.

Their most recent victory came in the 2020 final, beating Chelsea 2-1 in the behind closed doors showpiece.

The Gunners have in fact won all seven of their previous FA Cup finals stretching back to 2002.

Manchester United are second in the all-time list with 12 wins to their name, ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham with eight apiece.
