Who is rising star Sosie Bacon, and who are her famous parents?

Sosie Bacon is the next big thing in Hollywood. Mark our words. In fact, she’s already kind of proving herself to be a massive deal. The actress’ new movie Smile, in which she plays the lead role, has topped the box office for the second week in a row, beating out the likes of the star-studded film Amsterdam and Viola Davis’ The Woman King.

Despite Halloween being well and truly on the horizon, Smile’s success is still a rarity for a horror movie. And one of the main reasons Smile has entertained (and spooked) audiences so much is the incredible performance by lead actress Sosie. With her character’s fear-induced, panic-stricken scenes being so intense, you would think she’s had years of acting business under her belt.

And well, you wouldn’t be mistaken in thinking that, as Sosie has actually been keeping her head down and working steadily in Hollywood over the last few years. Just last year, she starred opposite Kate Winslet in the Emmy-winning series Mare of Easttown! How’s that for a majorly impressive television role?

What is Sosie’s background?

Well, you may have already figured out from her surname, but Sosie is the daughter of none other than Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick! Yes, she is another nepotism baby – but trust us, her talents definitely justify her privileged upbringing. While her dad Kevin cast her in his film Loverboy back in 2005, and she was crowned Miss Golden Globe in 2014, her famous parents have never forced or overly encouraged her to join the business.

“They tried to just stay out of it. I don’t think that they encouraged or discouraged either way. Having parents that are in this, you see a lot of the negative sides of it, not just the flashy, fun side of it. But that being said, as soon as I made the choice, it was like, ‘Amazing. That’s exciting. Now we can talk about it.’ It wasn’t like, Oh, no’, she told Harper’s Bazaar recently.

How did Sosie discover her love for acting?

While she had a few small acting credits to her name, Manhattan-raised Sosie said she was actively looking for something that would make her happy every day waking up to do. And after starring in a play in New York, she realised that that thing was acting. It was then she drove to LA and began auditioning.

What else has Sosie starred in?

As well as Smile and Mare of Easttown, Sosie has also starred in the Netflix teen drama 13 Reasons Why, the television series Here and Now, and the biographical film, Charlie Says.
