The Selecao won the match 4-1 and put up a stellar show in front of a packed 40,000 crowd at the stadium. But apart from the result, there was another component which reverberated throughout the match.
Brazil players wore black jersey instead of their traditional canaries. It was an odd sight for the spectators as the five-time World Champions are not known for that kind of attire in football matches. It was a spectacular show on the field but the message off the field was as strong as ever.
Why Brazil wore Black Jerseys
Brazil players wore the Black jersey to support anti-racism and stand against racial abuse and racist behaviours.
Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior, who plays for Real Madrid in Spain, was recently racially abused at the Mestalla stadium in Valencia. Vinicius has been subject to racism many times during his time in Spain and recently took to social media to address the grave issue.

And his Brazilian teammates showed solidarity with the player by wearing the black jersey and urged supporters across the world to refrain from racism.
The Brazilian Football Confederation is behind Saturday’s move with the slogan, “Com racismo, nao tem jogo” (With racism, there is no game).

Boa sorte, @vinijr!

The Brazilian football also had a message for Vinicius Junior before the match.
“With racism there is no game! Your fight is our fight. And on this historic day, when the Brazilian national team will wear a black shirt for the first time, you will wear our emblematic number 10 shirt. Let’s go together in the fight against racism in football and society,” a social media post addressing Vinicius Junior wrote.
The players also took a knee before the start of the match. The Canaries secured a comfortable victory as Joelinton, Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Vinicius Junior all scored one each. Brazil take on Senegal in their next friendly in Lisbon on Wednesday (June 21).
