Why Elden Ring Fans Are Worried About The Online Multiplayer Mode

Elden Ring will be out in a few weeks on all consoles, and several Souls series fans awaiting the new JRPG are worried about how its multiplayer mode will turn out due to a new exploit.

Elden Ring is the next Souls-like action RPG made by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. As such, it’s one of the biggest releases of 2022, with the whole game industry awaiting its launch.

Furthermore, FromSoftware already confirmed Elden Ring includes an online multiplayer mode similar to the one found in past Souls games. And now several fans are worried about how this will pan out on PC due to a recent exploit’s reveal.

Remote Code Execution exploit found in Dark Souls online multiplayer on PC might be in Elden Ring PC too

In late January, it has been reported that a Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit has been found in the Dark Souls series’ online mode on PC. In other words, players who invade your world in the game can run arbitrary code on your machine, including malicious code.

Hackers could do anything from formatting your HDD to stealing passwords and credit card info stored on your PC.

Furthermore, it looks like the same exploit is in the PC version of Elden Ring, which is using the same netcode.

On January 23, the Dark Souls series Twitter account announced that online multiplayer PvP servers for Dark Souls 3, 2, Prepare to Die Edition, and Remastered have been temporarily deactivated. That’s all the Souls games on PC. The Xbox and PlayStation servers are still online.

Elden Ring launches on February 25, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, and PC. The game was delayed from a January 21 release. Do you plan to switch your preorder from PC to consoles?
