Jos Buttler’s side are looking to wrap up the series in Birmingham having won the first two games of the series.
The series against the Black Caps has given England much-needed white ball game time ahead of the defence of their World Cup ODI title, which starts on October 5 in India.
Here is the reason behind the black armbands on display this afternoon.
Why are England players wearing black armbands?
England are wearing black armbands against New Zealand in honour of former Zimbabwe captain and coach Heath Streak, who died earlier today.
Streak, who was 49, passed away after a battle with liver and colon cancer.
He died peacefully surrounded by family at his farm in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
Streak took a national-record 216 wickets in 65 Test appearances for Zimbabwe and captained his country at the 2003 World Cup.
The former Warwickshire captain managed 1,990 Test runs and his 2,943 runs and 239 wickets in 189 ODI’s is also a Zimbabwe record.
Having retired in 2005, Streak admitted to five breaches of the ICC’s anti-corruption code when he was coaching Zimbabwe, thus earning himself an eight-year ban.
He denied match fixing but accepted he did receive payment in bitcoin for passing on inside information relating to international fixtures.
