Frank Lampard made six changes for Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Brighton and was without the injured Kai Havertz.

The Blues are looking to win their first game and score their first games under Frank Lampard against in-form Brighton.

Chelsea lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League last time out and Lampard named a much-changed team for the visit of Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton.

Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Denis Zakaria, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher all came in to the side, while Havertz, Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly were not named in the matchday squad.

On Havertz’s absence, Chelsea caretaker manager Lampard said: ‘Kai has had a little issue with his knee which he felt in Madrid on Wednesday night. He should be fine for Tuesday.’

Lampard added: ‘My other changes are for freshness and more energy. We gave a big output the other day and therefore some players need to rest completely for Tuesday.

‘The fans want to see passion in our game. We have to match them on all sides, the physical element of the game.

‘Let’s try and deliver it here at home, Mentality is key, it is a general word but there is a lot to it. There are things we can affect tactically, too.’

Brighton, who are chasing European football, made three changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Tottenham last weekend.

Seagulls goalkeeper Robert Sanchez comes in for his first Brighton start since March 19 while Adam Webster replaces on-loan Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.
