Why this WAG is ditching WA to find new norm in Melbourne

Fortress WA is still closed to the rest of the country, but for Juvelle Behrendorff, it’s given her a sense of “normality” for the first time in years.

But it happens to be in Melbourne, not in Perth.

The stylist and wife of Perth cricketer Jason Behrendorff is no stranger to plans going out the window between living in and out of hubs, raising two kids while her bowler husband is playing around the world and running her business.

“You learn to be flexible with cricket,” Behrendorff told AAA.

The pair and their children, Harrison, who turns four in April, and Levi, one, flew over to Melbourne in December ahead of the Big Bash League, and to avoid several rounds of quarantining, they’re making the most of it.

“I’ve been able to get back to normality for my business in terms of teaching (at the Australian Style Institute) in Melbourne for the first time in two years,” she said.

“I’ve got work that I’m committed to in March in Sydney which was obviously made in faith with borders opening.

“I was supposed to come back and then I would head out for a couple of days and come back home but with that not being possible, we’ve opted to stay out here as a family.”

They have “loose plans” to return to Perth but she said the “beauty” is that her work is flexible and the family of four get much-needed time together.

“There’s so many unknowns in the future,” she said of Jason’s auction ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League and the logistics of the Perth Scorchers playing interstate, but “family comes first”.
