Should Whyte overcome the undefeated Franklin, it’s likely to pave the way for a bout with Anthony Joshua. And the 34-year-old recently upped the stakes with his British rival, labelling him “spineless” in an unprovoked rant.
“He puts on this act and pretends he’s a good boy, and all of a sudden, he wants to be a bad boy and he wants to rap, and he wants to talk about notorious gangsters and stuff,” said Whyte. “No real spine or backbone, just a bit all over the place.”
The pair fought each other back in 2015 with Joshua coming through early adversity to win via a seventh-round stoppage. In the second round, Whyte caught AJ with a left hook that rocked him to his boots.
According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the winner of Whyte vs Jermaine Franklin on November 26 is the ‘frontrunner’ to face Joshua next.
