Wilder coach has Joyce worry as fight with Bronze Bomber discussed

Deontay Wilder’s head trainer Malik Scott believes it will be very hard to beat Joe Joyce if The Bronze Bomber doesn’t knock him out. The former heavyweight contender-turned-coach is interested to see how many of his fighter’s punches the Brit can take and admits that winning over the twelve-round distance is unlikely.

After beating Joseph Parker two weeks ago, Joyce called out all of the heavyweight division’s top-tier talents. The Juggernaut seems most interested in avenging his 2013 loss to Oleksandr Usyk in the amateur ranks but the boxing world is pushing for the Wilder fight.

The American topped the majority of polls regarding Joyce’s next fight with fans hoping to see the division’s consensus hardest puncher collide with the 37-year-old’s seemingly uncrackable chin.

“The question is, how many of those can he take? That’s a different type of power,” Scott told BoxingScene. “It’ll be interesting just to see how many he can take. The kind of power Deontay has is not meant for no one to continue to take over and over and over.”

In his column for BT Sport, Warren said: “I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz around potentially making Joyce vs Deontay Wilder in the future. That is a stadium fight here in the UK which would be absolutely brilliant.

“Wilder is fighting Robert Helenius in two weeks, and I know his manager, Shelley Finkel, very well so let’s see what happens after the fight. We’ll have a chat about it. I’m not sure they will be chomping at the bit to face Joyce after this weekend – but you can only ask!

“Wilder is such a big puncher, truly phenomenal power. It would end up coming down to a battle of wills between the two of them, but I would fancy Joe to come through that and get to Wilder.”
