Deontay Wilder has offered to step in for Tyson Fury if the Brit ‘prices himself out’ of his proposed undisputed unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk. The Bronze Bomber believes that Fury’s £500million purse demands are too much and doesn’t see any potential suitors finding the money.
“If he overprices himself, they know where to find me. £500million is definitely pricing himself out,” Wilder told reporters while attending Andy Ruiz Jr vs Luis Ortiz.
“I’m here, Deontay Wilder’s back. I’m here to make the division back strong and exciting again. I’m here for all the smoke. But we’ll see what happens.
“Boxing is a business. It’s strictly a business and you’ve gotta treat it accordingly. We’ll see how the business has to be handled for that fight to happen.”
Among the possible locations are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), and the United States (Las Vegas).
“It’s some foreigner who nobody really cares about,” Fury told talkSPORT. “To fight this unknown entity and give him an opportunity of legendary status? They have to pay for that.I don’t mind chucking a dog a bone, but I don’t want to chuck him the full f****** dogs’ home.
“They have a week. It’s August 24. They have a week to submit their offers. I want it in writing with proof of funds. This fight is purely about money. I’m happily retired. I don’t need money, I’ve got plenty of money.”
“It’s the biggest fight in the world so it needs to be the biggest payday in the world. [Floyd] Mayweather got £400million to fight [Manny] Pacquiao, I want £500m. I know they [Saudi Arabia] have got the money. They’ve offered Tiger Woods $1billion [to join LIV Golf].”
