Wilder trainer lifts lid on tell-tale sign that American can beat Usyk

Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott is confident his man will beat unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and says that the proof is in his condition after fights. Scott notes that the Ukrainian is often banged up after his heavyweight contests – meaning he’s regularly getting hit.

And the American believes it is not ‘biomechanically possible’ for Usyk to take what Wilder dishes out. Despite his slick style and excellent defence, as a smaller heavyweight Usyk has to venture into the firing line to get off his work against larger foes.

In his last two fights against Anthony Joshua, The Cat’s face was heavily cut and bruised despite clear victories in both contests. That being said, Usyk was never rocked or wobbled by AJ, who is widely considered to be one of the biggest punchers of the modern generation.

With Wilder, however, it is a different kind of power. As demonstrated in his last fight against Robert Helenius, The Bronze Bomber can switch off far bigger heavyweights with minimal wind-up and he has proven that time and time again.

“If you get in there with Deontay it ain’t no being slick for 12 rounds, you have to get hit because the power isn’t slow power, it’s rapid speed power. So, you’ve got to be on point, and that’s a fight I’m interested in for Deontay. For the way it’s going it looks like we’re going to have to go down the Andy Ruiz route for now but even that’s going to be fun for us.”

Wilder’s next fight is expected to be against Andy Ruiz Jr in a WBC final eliminator bout for a shot at Fury’s green strap. The fight was ordered at the WBC convention last week by sanctioning body president Mauricio Sulaimán.
