Hollywood star Will Smith has confessed that he once thought about killing his father

Will Smith has claimed he once thought about killing his dad after he used to beat his mum.

The Hollywood star, 53, has revealed in his new memoirs that at one point he had the thoughts as he wanted to “avenge” his mother for the abuse she witnessed.

The Bad Boys actor opened up about the abuse and his childhood memories of his dad, William Carroll Smith Sr, in his memoirs called Will and admitted one incident growing up in Philadelphia scarred him for life.

In an excerpt published in PEOPLE, Will wrote: “My father was violent, but he was also at every game, play, and recital.

“He was an alcoholic, but he was sober at every premiere of every one of my movies. He listened to every record. He visited every studio.

“When I was nine years old, I watched my father punch my mother in the side of the head so hard that she collapsed. I saw her spit blood. That moment in that bedroom, probably more than any other moment in my life, has defined who I am.”

Will admits that in every acceptance speech he has since completed, he tries to include a subtle string of apologies to his mum for failing to stand up to his dad and for “being a coward”.

Will Sr and Caroline Bright eventually split when their son was a teenager and the pair divorced in 2000.

The Fresh Prince star described how the darkest days between him and his dad came while his dad was battling cancer in his final years and he was his carer.

He explained how he had always told himself that he would “avenge” his mother one day and found himself thinking dark thoughts while he was wheeling his dad from the bedroom towards the bathroom and close to a set of stairs.

“I paused at the top of the stairs,” Will wrote. “I could shove him down, and easily get away with it. As the decades of pain, anger, and resentment coursed then receded, I shook my head and proceeded to wheel Daddio to the bathroom.”

William Sr died in 2016 and his famous son’s personal life has been a big topic of discussion in recent years.

In September, the Miami singer opened up about his marriage to Jada Pinkett-Smith and admitted to sleeping with other people in a no-holds-barred interview.

The duo have been married for 24 years and share two kids together; Jaden, 23, and Willow, 21. He also has a son, 28-year-old Trey from a previous relationship with Sheree Zampino.
