A day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi approved a proposal to appoint seven working presidents in the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), including Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, he said that he will strengthen the party in the state.
“I have officially joined the Congress party. I am thankful to party leaders in Gujarat and Delhi for giving me such an important post as working president. All the other leaders in the working president post are strong leaders. We will raise the voice of the people and be on the ground to fight against injustice,” Mevani told India Today.
Mevani said, “We will make Congress strong on the ground and prepare a blueprint for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. For all seven working presidents, the responsibility is huge.”
“We will provide jobs, government posts will be filled, women’s empowerment, we will get the best manifesto and make sure that work will start and promises will be delivered in 6 months or 100 days of Congress government formation. We will go ahead with Andolan and Satyagraha,” he added.
When asked if there will be a more powerful Congress in Gujarat, Mevani responded, “Obviously, yes, and only one thing: all of us must fight on the ground. There is no other option.”
