Here are 10 things you should know about Wimbledon 2023

  • 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic hasn’t lost in Wimbledon since 2018 and is the 4-time defending champion. Wimbledon 2022 runners-up Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of the tournament due to injury.
  • Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed men’s singles player. He is followed by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, Norway’s Casper Ruud and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. Men’s singled final will be played on July 16.
  • Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina is the women’s singles defending champion at the Wimbledon 2023. She is seeded third, behind Polish top-seed Iga Swiatek and second seed Belarusian superstar Aryna Sabalenka. Women’s singles final will be played on July 15.
  • Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur who lost the Wimbledon 2022 women’s singles final to Rybakina is seeded sixth this year.
  • Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is also competing. The 40th ranked player is unseeded. Notably, only the top 32 players get seedings.
  • Australian pair Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell won the men’s doubles title in Wimbledon 2022. Matthew Ebden has paired with India veteran Rohan Bopanna. The pair is seeded sixth in the men’s doubles category. Men’s doubles final will be played on July 15.
  • The Czech pair of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková won the women’s doubles title in the Wimbledon 2023. The pair are top seeds in the category in Wimbledon 2023.
  • Krejčíková and Siniaková are set to get a tough challenge from the second-seed American pair of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. Women’s singles final will be played on July 16.
  • Britain’s Neal Skupski and USA’s Desirae Krawczyk won the Wimbledon 2022 mixed doubles title. The draw will be available starting July 5. Mixed doubles final will be played on July 13.
  • Wimbledon curfew will continue to start at 11 PM. It means that no matches will be carried forward after 11 PM and the competing players will have to resume the next day. Wimbledon curfew was introduced in 2009 to balance the consideration of the local residents with the scale of an international tennis event that takes place in a residential area. The challenge of transport connectivity and getting visitors home safely is also a key consideration.
