Wish You Were Here: A Croatian jaunt includes Dubrovnik, Zagreb and more

Our readers have been traveling the world in recent months, exploring everything from Old Montreal’s charming streets and Vienna’s cultural center to Antarctica’s icy landscapes. Now they’re sharing their tales and offering helpful travel tips, too.

Today, friends from San Jose and Milpitas are sharing their Croatia adventures and travel advice.

WISH YOU WERE HERE

CROATIA:
San Jose residents Heidi and Sangam Racherla, from right, and friends Asha Mehta and Stanley Yee of Milpitas explored Old Town Dubrovnik during a 10-day vacation to Croatia last fall. “It was our first trip back to Europe since the pandemic, so we prioritized visiting a new country about which we’d heard so many rave reviews,” Heidi says. “For varying experiences, we ultimately chose to visit the iconic medieval coastal town of Dubrovnik, modern capital city Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes National Park with a day trip to Mostar in Bosnia as well.”

TRAVEL TIPS: “You may be tempted to stay in the heart of it but choose a hotel outside of Old Town Dubrovnik to avoid the crowds and hassle of carrying suitcases through the cobblestone streets, alleyways and up multiple flights of stairs, since it’s completely closed to cars. We stayed at a resort in Lapad Bay a few miles away with a beautiful promenade, Adriatic sea views and great dining options and easily traveled the short distance daily via bus, taxi or Uber.”
